AC Milan have not been strangers to injury issues so far this season, and the Rossoneri are being forced to deal with another this weekend.
The attack has changed constantly this season, not due to disappointment, but rather a number of players suffering from injuries. Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao have both struggled with issues, as has Santiago Gimenez.
Then, Christopher Nkunku was also not really ready when he arrived, which has stunted his season.
This weekend, Massimiliano Allegri will be forced to make changes again, thanks to an injury to Christian Pulisic, which was first reported earlier in the week. Then, in yesterday’s press conference, Allegri confirmed that he would probably miss this weekend.
Leao and…
This morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has looked at the possible replacements, with Gimenez and Pulisic set to miss the game.
The first option is the most natural, and it involves starting Leao with Nkunku. The partnership has been tested before – against Parma and Roma – where the Frenchman was key in both, whilst Nkunku struggled.
Finding rhythm is the key, and being pushed to find it this weekend could hopefully be the start of him finding his feet for his new club.
Alternatively, Allegri will consider using Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the unorthodox role again. The Englishman has been played there on occasion, and he has already scored a striker-like goal this season (the header against Lecce).
Starting him as a striker would deprive the Italian of a key tactical piece, though, so whether he is chosen to start is a more difficult one to assess.
