Francesco Camarda’s loan spell at Lecce appeared to be over based on Eusebio Di Francesco’s goodbye, but now things have changed.
Di Francesco, the manager of Lecce, gave Camarda a hug just before his post-match interview at the weekend amid rumours the Milan loanee is heading back to base to recover from a troublesome shoulder issue.
Camarda to stay?
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, in recent weeks talks between Lecce and Milan have become increasingly frequent, especially when the Giallorossi were based in Novarello to prepare for the San Siro double-header against Inter and Milan.
The subject of the conversations, clearly, was Camarda. The shoulder injury has proven more serious than expected: Francesco requires surgery, and rather than postpone it until the end of the season, he wants to do it now so he can be at his best during the upcoming pre-season training camp.
Milan – as his parent club – would therefore have preferred the player to return to Milanello and be monitored by their staff. On the other hand, Lecce pushed for Camarda to stay, because Di Francesco believes he’s useful to the Giallorossi cause.

The option to buy and buy-back add another complication. According to the agreements reached in the summer, Lecce will be able to buy Camarda at the end of the season for a favourable fee, receiving approximately €1m if Milan exercise the counter-option, which they will.
It goes without saying that reaching an agreement to terminate the loan in January seems rather difficult for the two clubs. Therefore, barring any surprises, Camarda will return to Milan for treatment, but will remain a Lecce player in all respects.
Perhaps, if he recovers well, he’ll have the opportunity to wear the Giallorossi jersey a few more times before the end of the loan.
