After earning praise for his performances in the summer preseason friendlies, a report has now picked Ruben Loftus-Cheek out as AC Milan’s key man.
The 2025-26 Serie A season restarts with plenty of changes: new coaches, new faces, and players ready to take centre stage who perhaps have not managed to do so up until this point.
From key players like Bremer at Juventus and Calhanoglu at Inter, to potential surprises like Folorunsho at Cagliari and Carboni at Genoa, next season promises to be packed with those who can make the difference.
RLC: Milan’s surprise weapon?
La Gazzetta dello Sport write that Milan will restart with Massimiliano Allegri, with the option of a three-man or four-man defence, but definitely a three-man midfield. This department boasts some high-quality players with good ball possession like Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric.

That means that – in order to preserve balance – one between Youssouf Fofana and Loftus-Cheek should play almost every game, and Allegri is very intrigued by the Englishman precisely because he has unique qualities in the squad.
Loftus-Cheek is physically explosive, a box-to-box midfielder, and knows how to get into the box. The unknown factor is his physical condition and his injury-prone nature.
In two seasons with the Rossoneri, he missed 37 games due to injury problems. But if he’s in good shape, he could be like a new signing.
