During Gerry Cardinale’s visit, he took the time to specifically greet Mike Maignan, who has recently renewed his deal with AC Milan, but why was this significant?
It is big enough in itself that Cardinale was at Milanello twice in the space of under a month. However, his visits have held different levels of importance for different reasons. The first was a welcoming back, almost, given his absence.
Whilst his second was done to strengthen his position at the club, really, re-establishing himself as central, whilst also offering support to the team once again.
However, the fact that he also took time aside to speak to Maignan and congratulate the goalkeeper was also crucial.
Maignan’s moment
It puts to an end a saga that has lasted far too long, whilst also being the first renewal of the post-Elliott era, which holds a massive significance, if nothing else, but for PR for RedBird. Of course, there is much more to it than PR, though.
Nevertheless, him specifically reaching out to the Frenchman shows a trust in one another and a gratitude both ways to continue together, as Andrea Rammazzotti stated for Gazzetta dello Sport, via MilanNews.
“Cardinale entertained himself talking to the managers (present in full), the technical staff and the players. Particularly significant was the moment when he shook hands and hugged Captain Maignan, whom he congratulated on the renewal of the contract, since Mike has an important value for the Devil’s sports project.

“Cardinale also stopped to talk alone with Allegri, with whom he took stock of the team’s situation, fresh from two consecutive victories and -8 from the leader Inter.”
