Gianluigi Donnarumma to Man Utd transfer as PSG agrees to goalkeeper deal

6 days ago 58

It's claimed Gianluigi Donnarumma is eyeing a move to Manchester United, as Paris Saint-Germain appears to be on the brink of signing a new goalkeeper.

Donnarumma, widely recognised as one of the world's top goalkeepers, has been instrumental in PSG's recent triumphs. The Italian star made 47 appearances in all competitions last season, steering PSG to Champions League, Ligue 1, and French Cup victories, making them the first French club to clinch a continental treble. PSG also reached the Club World Cup final, losing to Chelsea.

However, with his contract set to expire in 2026 and negotiations for a renewal seemingly at a standstill, Donnarumma's future at PSG looks uncertain.

A report from L'Equipe suggests that PSG has struck a deal to bring in Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

The report indicates that a fee of €40 million ($46.6 million), excluding bonuses, has been agreed for the 23-year-old. PSG is aiming to wrap up the transfer ahead of its European Super Cup match against Tottenham on 13 August.

Consequently, it seems likely that Donnarumma will depart Paris this summer, and TEAMtalk reports that United has "formally" registered its interest.

Andre Onana's Manchester United future is in doubt

Andre Onana's Manchester United future is in doubt

The report suggests that while United acknowledges a deal would be "very difficult" at present, circumstances could shift.

Donnarumma is reportedly eager to make the switch to Old Trafford, attracted by United's prestige, even though the team will not be competing in Europe this current season.

Andre Onana, United's current number one between the sticks, has faced criticism since his move from Inter Milan in 2023 following a string of high-profile blunders.

Addressing speculation about his future earlier this summer, Onana remarked: "Will I leave? I don't know, we'll see!"

United's boss Ruben Amorim, however, is confident that Onana will bounce back stronger this season. Speaking to the press, Amorim observed: "I think even when you talk about Andre, you can see the goalkeepers.

"Even Tom [Heaton] is leaner, he's a different goalkeeper. Altay [Bayindir] did really well, and Onana is going to be better, like the other guys, this year. I think are we better in every detail, in the organisation of the day-by-day.

"The nutrition is better, the way we cook, what we eat, how we prepare training. I think that we are more organised. I think we have people now that help us to be better. I'm not concerned with small things and I was last year.

"So, those things help us and help me to think more about watching the game, watching the team. So it's a big help for me. When it's a big help for the technical staff, it's a big help for the players."
