Santiago Gimenez got on the scoresheet for AC Milan against Leeds United, breaking the deadlock in the 1-1 draw, and he was very happy as he spoke to the media afterwards.
Following an extended vacation due to the Gold Cup tournament with Mexico, Gimenez returned to training on Tuesday this week. He arrived in good condition and was able to get going immediately, which allowed him to start today.
Sure enough, he needed just 31 minutes to score his first goal under Max Allegri’s leadership. A cross was sent into the box by Samuel Chukwueze and at the back post, Gimenez pounced on the loose ball. A proper finish too, earning him a good score in our player ratings.
After the game, he spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) and shared his thoughts on the goal and Allegri’s methods. He also praised those present at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, albeit if mainly Leeds fans, for creating a good atmosphere.
On the return and goal…
“I recently returned from vacation. For a striker, the best way to come back is to score. It was a good team performance, we have been training hard. We arrived here a little tired, but we gave everything for the shirt.”
What was the atmosphere like?
“The welcome was incredible. It’s how we would like to play every game. It’s incredible to see 50,000 people cheering like this.”
Tomorrow you will play against Chelsea…
“It’s part of the preparation. Allegri is very focused on intensity. He wants to be physically ready for the start of the season. Tomorrow we play Chelsea and we will give it our all again.”
How will you bounce back from last season?
“Last season went really badly, but we are playing for Milan and we have to push hard to win titles and compete the way Milan deserves.”
