Santiago Gimenez returned to scoring for his national team, and the circumstances will certainly give his confidence a big boost.

Gimenez had a lot of speculation floating over his head at the end of the window that has just closed, and it seemed as though his time at Milan might last just a few months. In the end no exit materialised, although the way the club handled things has come under scrutiny.

The striker will venture back over the Atlantic Ocean with some confidence after what happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning (European time). He picked up the ball on the edge of the box with the score 2-1 to South Korea in the 94th minute, and curled in a spectacular equaliser.

After the match, the Milan striker was interviewed by ESPN Mexico and spoke about the goal and how he feels with the national team in general. His comments are via MilanPress.

“We’re very confident in who we are as a group, as a team. We believe we’re on the right path. They’re tough opponents: you can’t always beat them, but you can’t always go down defeated either,” he said.

“Scoring goals? Every goal has the same meaning, whether in friendly matches or in the neighbourhood. We always celebrate. This is a team sport, so I want to congratulate my team. South Korea are a tough opponent, it’s great to be able to compete with them.”
