Giorgi Mamardashvili has posted for the first time after being stretchered off and sent to hospital during Liverpool's Merseyside derby win over Everton on Sunday

Giorgi Mamardashvili has thanked fans for their support after the Liverpool goalkeeper was sent to hospital, having been stretchered off during the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday.

Mamardashvili had to be stretchered off during the second half after colliding with Toffees striker Beto in the process of the hosts equalizing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was called upon to make his Premier League debut for the Reds, with Liverpool going on to win the game thanks to a stoppage-time header from Virgil van Dijk, although Mamardashvili's injury is a major concern heading into the final five games of the season.

The Georgia international has now posted on Instagram for the first time since Sunday, in which he reassured supporters that he will be back in action soon.

"Thank God everything is fine," Mamardashvili posted. "Thank you all so much for your support and for being by my side. I’ll be back soon. Big win in the derby and 3 points."

The post has already drawn reactions from Liverpool teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate, who both responded with love heart emojis, as well as international teammate and Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Reds boss Arne Slot confirmed after Sunday's game that Mamardashvili had been taken to hospital, but suggested that the goalkeeper may not face a long lay-off.

“He has gone off to hospital, Slot told Sky Sports. “It looked to me, and that’s also what they told me, that he had a big wound – an open wound. That’s of course not going to be a long-term injury. Let’s see if he is available for next week.

“We’ve had almost in all positions our problems and now even two goalkeepers being out.

“So it’s a good thing that we have three goalkeepers, because we usually don’t have three full-backs or three No.9s or three left wingers, and now it happens in a position where we have three players.”

Mamardashvili's injury could cause a headache for Slot though ahead of Saturday's game against Crystal Palace, with first-choice keeper Alisson Becker also still out at the moment.

The Brazilian has been recovering from a hamstring problem, and was expected to return at the end of this month, although he could now face a race against time to prove his fitness in time to face Palace at Anfield, with a crucial set of fixtures lying in wait in May.
