Giroud believes he was at his ‘best’ in Italy: “At Milan, many tell me they miss me”

Olivier Giroud believes that he had the best time of his career with AC Milan, and admitted that he is aware he is missed.

Giroud arrived at Milan from Chelsea during the 2021 summer transfer window originally to be the deputy to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the Swede’s constant injury issues meant that he quickly became the main man.

The Frenchman developed a knock for scoring big goals in big games and was a crucial part of the side that won the title in 2021-22. His winners in the derby against Inter and against Napoli at the Maradona are still fresh in the memories of Milanisti.

It was reported that Milan offered Giroud an extension on his deal to stay for another year, but the ex-Arsenal man decided that it was the right moment to call time on his playing career in Europe and join LAFC. However, within a year he was back in Europe, starring for Lille.

On Thursday evening Giroud will face Roma in a Europa League match and he spoke at a press conference, with his comments relayed by TMW.

How are you? Have you brought your experience to the dressing room?

“I always feel positive. We prepared well for this match, we watched a lot of Roma videos. We’re coming off a defeat, but we want to do well. I’m putting my experience at the disposal of the young players. I’ve been doing it since the start of the season.”

How does it feel to play against an Italian side?

“I had similar experiences in London. I was always proud to return. I hope I always leave a good impression. In Serie A I gave my best, the Scudetto was spectacular. At Milan, many tell me they miss me.”
