Glasner speaks on Mateta’s failed Milan move and confirms knee issue: “Since November”

There were rumours that Jean-Philippe Mateta had a knee issue before AC Milan found it, and those suggestions were confirmed by Oliver Glasner.

The move for Mateta seemed to be happening at the last minute, with Milan looking to get a deal done quickly, having swooped in late. Things seemed to be progressing well too, and then the medical arrived.

At first, checks were done in London, before the Rossoneri sent their own doctor to do further checks. With the Frenchman having a knee issue, the deal was cancelled, and Mateta remains in the Premier League.

Glasner confirms Mateta problem

After the Diavolo pulled out of the deal, it seemed likely that the striker would infact need surgery, talk about dodging a bullet. Now, Oliver Glasner has spoken on the matter, and how long the problem has been known to Crystal Palace, as Fabrizio Romano confirms on his X account.

“Mateta had a knee issue since November. He wanted to keep playing, so we managed it. Mateta told us he would like to leave. AC Milan assessed him and decided not to sign Jean-Philippe.

“We will have further assessments to really find the best solution.”

If the issue has been apparent for a few months now, who knows what damage has already been done?
