‘Go to bed earlier’ – Allegri keen for change after Milan contribute 15 internationals

In the past two weeks, AC Milan saw most of their players depart for international duty, and Massimiliano Allegri wants change. 

With the football calendar becoming more intense, there needs to be some focus on the effects of the additional workload. After all, players are now playing more than ever, with little time to actually rest and recover.

Of course, technology has advanced, but the methods of recuperating are not as advanced as the demands of the calendar at this point.

Allegri’s advice

Milan, during the international break, saw this firsthand, with several members of the team returning with issues. Considering almost 10% of Serie A internationals were from the Rossoneri, too, it is an issue that needs attention.

After Sunday’s game, Massimiliano Allegri actually spoke up about the problem, considering he was forced to make several changes for the game as a result. His words have been relayed by Football Italia.

“Football has evolved and become globalised; we absolutely can’t go backwards. I read something a while ago suggesting moving matches from 20:45 (CET) to 20:00. It would allow players to go to bed earlier. An extra three hours of rest could be an additional help for them. That could be a solution.”

Of course, it is more than just sleep. However, it would be a starting point to build upon.
