Gianluigi Donnarumma is Manchester City’s new goalkeeper, and AC Milan will financially benefit from the move.

After being arguably the best goalkeeper in the world last season, playing a decisive role in Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory, Donnarumma was shown the door by the French club, and in particular by manager Luis Enrique.

He preferred to have a number one deemed more suited to his style of play, and thus Lucas Chevalier was signed from Lille. For this reason, Donnarumma was sold to Manchester City – with a year left on his deal – for €30m.

Why Milan benefit

As MilanNews report (citing Goal), Milan will finally get some proceeds from Donnarumma moving, unlike in the 2021 summer transfer window when he went to PSG after his contract expired.

It will not be an exorbitant sum, but the accounts will soon receive a €1m boost. This will be done by virtue of the solidarity contribution, a percentage of the cost of a professional footballer’s transfer that the acquiring club must pay to the clubs that developed him.

It’s somewhat of a closing of the loop, after Donnarumma left for nothing amid a lot of controversy. The profit is still not what the Rossoneri could have got for the Italian, but it’s something.
