Sassuolo fought their way back into the game against AC Milan on Sunday afternoon, scoring the crucial equaliser late in the second half. Naturally, the manager Fabio Grosso was very happy.

The newly-promoted side certainly made life difficult for the Rossoneri at San Siro. After just 13 minutes, they managed to take the lead through Ismael Kone, following a quick attack, and they continued to create difficulties for Milan.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men got back into the game and eventually completed the turnaround, but that wasn’t the end of the game for Sassuolo. Instead, the substitute Armand Lauriente scored the equaliser which secured the point for the Neroverdi.

Grosso over the moon

After the game, the manager Fabio Grosso spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) and shared his thoughts on the performance. He was full of praise for his player, as you would expect, especially since they played bold and entertaining football.

Congratulations on the game…

“Compliments to the boys. Coming here and managing to hold their own against such a strong team, even having some regrets at the end, definitely shows they did a great job.”

Aggression to find the equaliser…

“We started well and took the lead. Then, obviously, our opponent is top-notch and we conceded due to some of our own shortcomings towards the end of the first half. We didn’t start the second half well, but we played a great ending.

“Our great courage allowed us to create the conditions to win. We’re happy with the point. Let’s put everything aside and look to the future with confidence.”

Lauriente’s three-touch goal…

“Now I’ve seen it again… It was a great attack. We didn’t think we’d be able to crush Milan like that, but in that moment, we did a great job. You have to be able to come in with these combinations and have great quality: it resulted in a very beautiful goal.

“Lauriente and Doig are very important for us. I left Doig out because he was coming off two days of being unwell. I hoped to keep the game even because I thought it was appropriate to use Lauriente towards the end. He scored a beautiful goal and also hit the post.”
