Theo Hernandez has given his stamp of approval for Davide Bartesaghi, who has become the unexpected heir to the Frenchman on the left-hand side of AC Milan’s formation.
When Hernandez left Milan in the summer, joining the Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, many wondered how the Rossoneri would be able to replace the Frenchman. Indeed, the discussion quickly shifted from finding a player of the same calibre to finding just a decent left-back.
In the end, Milan brought in Pervis Estupinan from Brighton for a little bit under €20m, but he’s not been the replacement the Rossoneri had envisioned. Instead, the youngster Bartesaghi has made the left wing-back position his.
Hernandez praises Bartesaghi
In his interview with Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, when asked if he met the team in Riyadh, Hernandez confirmed that he did so before the Napoli game. He also said that he spoke to Bartesaghi, who has been very impressive this season.
“Yes, before the Napoli match [in the Supercoppa] I met them. When I left, I couldn’t hug them all like I wanted. I’m sorry they lost. I said ‘well done’ to Bartesaghi, who deserves everything, and hugged Modric, whom I played with in Madrid. A genius: he’s on another level,” he stated.

Hernandez has provided his stamp of approval, as such, and it will surely mean a lot to Bartesaghi. The two obviously know each well from the last few years, but it’s never a bad thing to get praise from the players that you respect.
