Hernandez warns Milan fans regarding Maignan renewal: “It didn’t end well”

Theo Hernandez warned the AC Milan fans when asked about Mike Maignan’s potential renewal, comparing the Frenchman’s situation with his own in the summer.

Hernandez said goodbye to Milan in the summer, joining the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, as the parties failed to reach an agreement for a contract renewal. Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, the left-back stated that it wasn’t his decision to leave the club.

Maignan now finds himself in a similar situation as his contract will expire in the summer, and there is still no renewal agreement in sight. The discussion in the media has been the same as with Hernandez: the renewal demands are too high from the player’s side.

If Hernandez is to be believed, however, his departure in the summer had nothing to do with a high salary request. When asked about Maignan, the Frenchman warned that his compatriot could be heading for the same outcome.

Would you have left Milan?

“Never. My priority was to stay. They said I had asked for insane figures for the renewal, that I was pushing for a transfer… all false.”

Did you feel abandoned by Milan?

“I deserved better treatment. I didn’t expect it. Some teammates pushed me to stay, but when a director calls you and says ‘if you stay here, we’ll cut you from the squad,’ then what can I do?”

Will Maignan renew?

“He has a similar situation to mine, and it didn’t end well.”
