HLN: Milan send scouts to watch Genk playmaker in Europa League action

1 week ago 36

AC Milan were one of a few top European clubs to send scouts to watch Konstantinos Karetsas in action, according to a report.

Milan’s squad took on a more experienced feel in the summer with signings such as Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot, who are 40 and 30 respectively and have both already become established starters. It showed a bit of flexibility from the previous stance of only signing players in their early or mid 20s.

However, the acquisition of a player like David Odogu – who arrived for €7m plus bonuses from Wolfsburg in the summer – shows that the directors still have an eye on procuring the best young talent on the European scene.

A scouting mission

According to Het Laatste Nieuws (via Transferfeed), scouts from Milan, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and AS Monaco were present as KRC Genk faced FC Basel in the European League on Thursday night.

They went to watch one player above all: 18-year-old Greek-Belgian attacking midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas. The Greek international has three goals in nine senior national team appearances and he joined Genk in January 2024.

The teenager has a contract with the Belgian club until 2029. So far in the current Jupiler Pro League season, he has provided three assists in 13 appearances. His market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €23.00m.
