AC Milan were given a shock announcement this week, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek receiving an England call-up for the first time since 2019.
There has been a lot about Loftus-Cheek in the past few years, with Milan, and even outside of Milanese circles. The English midfielder is very clearly talented. However, he has regularly struggled with injuries.
Struggled, even, feels a bit unfair. His career has regularly been halted by small knocks followed by one another, and his commitment to returning to a solid level can only be applauded. So far, his season has been hit and miss, both singular.
Against Cremonese, he was rather poor. However, he returned with a goal and a strong attacking look against Lecce.
Tuchel’s words
As a result of his start, and potentially his relationship from the Chelsea days, there was a call-up waiting for him after the injury to Adam Wharton. It will be interesting to see if/how Loftus-Cheek plays for the Three Lions.

Thomas Tuchel spoke about the midfielder in today’s press conference, via Milan Posts.
“Loftus-Cheek? He’s full of quality, and sometimes I don’t think he realises how good he is and how good he can be. But thanks to his character and quality, he adapts and competes for a place in midfield. It’s great to see him fit and not injured.”
