How Liverpool could line up next season with 3 signings to transform Arne Slot's team

Liverpool will need to be busy in the summer transfer market to address the imbalance in Arne Slot's roster, regardless of what else happens before the campaign comes to an end

Liverpool has not enjoyed the kind of season that it thought it was heading for, with a substantial change required by the summer at the latest — and ideally before.

As things stand, it will be touch and go for the Reds in terms of Champions League qualification, but regardless of the outcome there, it will need to go big in the summer once again. For all that things have unraveled this season, the additions a year ago were all good; there just needs to be more of them — and a bit more luck when it comes to injuries — to get back on track.

Talented young defender Jeremy Jacquet has already been acquired, but another new center-back might be required should Ibrahima Konate exit as a free agent — a real possibility, as things stand.

Aside from that, though, priority number one has to be to inject some more pace into the Liverpool attack.

Most obviously, Mohamed Salah, in particular, has lost a yard this season and has been really struggling, while Cody Gakpo is not in great form either.

Whoever it is that comes in, essentially replacing Luis Diaz is a necessity, to help out Rio Ngumoha's progression and ensure that Jeremie Frimpong isn't needed to play on the right wing too often — he can do it, but will also be needed at full-back.

Liverpool could do with some more depth in the center of its midfield — Alexis Mac Allister said recently that no contract talks have been held over an extension for him and there has been no news yet on Curtis Jones either — but two key parts should still be there.

Ryan Gravenberch recently signed a new contract and Dominik Szoboszlai is in negotiations amid a brilliant season for the Hungarian. The latter, hopefully, won't be needed at right-back so often next.

Between them, and with Florian Wirtz as the number 10, that looks like the most energetic and technically gifted midfield trio, with the likes of Mac Allister and Jones ideally in reserve.

And in front of them, of course, Alexander Isak should be back available to help support Hugo Ekitike. With more pace on the flanks and Wirtz more acclimatized to the English game, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about that.

So, for all that this season has not unfolded in the way that Liverpool thought, and a reset feels necessary, it is not a million miles away from having a roster that is much more rounded and not lacking so much in key departments.

Next season, a substantial improvement should be more than realistic; the key question between now and then is whether Liverpool can do enough to get back into the Champions League.

Alongside that, Arne Slot could do with showing a few signs of what next season could look like with the tools he has at his disposal at the moment. When the summer comes, though, another center-back and a couple of wingers could make a transformational impact.
