Arsenal, the Premier League leader, will look to take another step towards progression in the Champions League today, with Liverpool likely hoping that Mikel Arteta's team stumbles after a strong start to the new season.

Facing Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal should be tested against another defensively resolute team that has plenty of attacking quality too. The Gunners will have to be on their game to maintain their 100 per cent European record.

In the UK, the game will be streamed live on Amazon Prime. In the US, it will be available on Paramount+. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm UK time, which is 3pm ET.

Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard all remain out injured for Arsenal, while Mikel Arteta could rotate his starting XI to keep things fresh.

Players like Myles Lewis-Skelly, Cristhian Mosquera, Mikel Merino, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White are all vying to start. The most likely change is Martinelli for Leandro Trossard on the left wing.

For Atletico, Julian Alvarez is the focal point in attack and has been exceptional so far this season. Antoine Griezmann has been a strong performer alongside him.

Diego Simeone has new signings Giacomo Raspadori, Nico Gonzalez and Thiago Almada to call upon in attack too, with the latter coming off the bench to score the winner against Osasuna over the weekend.

Atletico remains solid defensively with Jan Oblak in goal, while new signing Alex Baena has slotted in well in midfield. Conor Gallagher is likely to come off the bench, but USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso is out with an ankle injury.

"First of all, the willingness to win," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference when he was asked about what makes Atletico Madrid so hard to come up against.

"You can sense that in every single ball, in every single yard, the way they play, so it's about how they compete and then after how they play.

"I think there are two very different things, and in order to have to analyze what they are, the level of organization is really high, and the level of discipline is really high.

"They have acquired a lot of talent throughout the years that are very specific for the needs and the way they want to play and they are very, very good at exploiting those opportunities."

Earlier this season, Virgil van Dijk scored a late winner for Liverpool against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The Spanish side beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in its other fixture.

Arsenal is currently on maximum points having beaten Athletic Club, another La Liga outfit, and Olympiacos.
