England will aim to continue its impressive form under Thomas Tuchel when it takes on Uruguay in an international friendly on Friday
England gets its 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations underway on Friday with a visit from Uruguay as the countdown to this summer's tournament begins.
In what is the final international break of the season, the Three Lions will be keen to show what they're about ahead of jetting off to the United States in June, as several players aim to further cement their place in head coach Thomas Tuchel's final squad with some impressive displays.
Tuchel's decision to leave Curtis Jones out of his 35-man squad for this month's friendlies means there will be no Liverpool players on show, but the Reds do still have 13 players away on international duty.

Team news
Tuchel made a surprise decision to call up 35 players for this month's friendlies with Uruguay and Japan, but the England head coach has since confirmed that 11 key members of the team won't link up with the squad until after the match against Uruguay.
Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson, Nico O'Reilly, Marc Guéhi, Ezri Konsa, Dan Burn and Dean Henderson have all been given an extra few days of rest, so will not feature on Friday night.

Several players, including Jude Bellingham (second right), will be given a chance to impress against Uruguay on Friday
That means the likes of Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, Everton's James Garner, Newcastle United's Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes, and Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin will all look to make their claim for the World Cup.
As for Uruguay, which will also be present at the 2026 World Cup after finishing fourth in their South American qualifying section behind Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia, there will also be several familiar faces on show.
Barcelona's Ronald Araujo and Real Madrid's Federico Valverde will perhaps be the two most notable starters, but they could be set to be joined by Man United's Manuel Ugarte and former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, who has nine goals this season for Al-Hilal.
