Manchester City kick off their Champions League campaign in buoyant mood following Sunday’s derby demolition of Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola’s side begin their tilt at continental glory against Kevin De Bruyne’s Napoli at the Etihad on Thursday night. They are looking to right the wrongs of last season’s European campaign, when they only just scrambled through the new-look league phase before losing to Real Madrid 6-3 on aggregate in the play-off round.

It was the second season in a row they had been knocked out by the 15-time European champions. The sides will meet again in this season’s competition, with City playing in the Spanish capital on December 10.

City will also face Monaco (away), Villarreal (away), Borussia Dortmund (home), Leverkusen (home) and Bodo/Glimt (away) in the league phase, which sees the top eight clubs go straight through to round of 16, while the sides that finished ninth to 24th will contest the play-off round, which City will be eager to avoid.

But first it’s a date with Napoli, now managed by former Chelsea, Tottenham and Italy boss Antonio Conte. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game, including kick-off time, TV channel and streaming details.

What time does Man City vs Napoli start?

The match kicks off at 8pm on Thursday, September 18.

What channel is Man City vs Napoli on?

The match will be shown live on TNT Sports 2 and the Discovery+ app, with coverage starting an hour before kick-off at 7pm.

The night’s other matches, including Newcastle vs Barcelona, will also be broadcast across the TNT Sports network and Discovery+. If you’re not a subscriber, Discovery+, which gives access to all TNT Sports channels, costs £30.99 per month with no long-term commitment.

What's the Man City vs Napoli team news?

The most intriguing aspect of the team news will be whether City great De Bruyne plays. The brilliant Belgian, 34, is expected to start the game, having settled in well following his free agent move to Napoli, who top Serie A after winning all three of their domestic games so far.

Meanwhile, with Sunday’s showdown against Arsenal looming, Guardiola has been weighing up whether to play the fit-again John Stones from the start after he missed the derby.

Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Omar Marmoush remain sidelined, while Guardiola may decide to give Rodri a breather, with his recent long injury absence and Sunday’s trip to the Emirates in mind.
