While Arsenal and Manchester City might be out of reach for Liverpool this season, the Reds are at least in a Champions League spot again. And if there are any slip-ups, Arne Slot's side should be eyeing up the chance to pounce.

Mikel Arteta's men put in an impressive performance against Aston Villa earlier in the week and in the Premier League title race, it is now over to Pep Guardiola and his players to deliver something similar.

Later today, after Liverpool has taken on Leeds United, Manchester City will kick off at Sunderland, and it isn't the worst time to face Regis Le Bris' men, considering it has several players away at AFCON.

In the US, the game will be shown live on NBC, where it can also be streamed. In the UK, it will be on Sky Sports Main Event, and can also be streamed live on the Sky GO app.

"Last season, what we did and overcame was one of the best seasons that we have had as a team," Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference.

"All the guys that were there and the staff, backroom staff, it was arguably one of the best we have had. It’s how you overcome the problems that define the seasons.

"And from the perspective now, every time when I reflect what happened last season, I am more proud than ever of what we have done as a club.

"How we handled the bad, bad situations, how the hierarchy, Khaldoon, the CEO, how incredible the messages of support of ‘let’s go, let’s go, let’s go’. Just in this incredible club, [it] can happen."

Manchester City was struggling in the first half of the season last year, but then spent big in January and made the top four places.

"I never expect to go to the transfer window in January but without the players we signed last year, we would not play the Champions League this season," Guardiola added.

"Basically, we didn’t have players for a long, long time. We didn’t have players.

"Then the moment with the new players and three quarters of the season the players come back, we were the best team in the Premier League for the last 10, 15 games of last season."

Manchester City faces Chelsea at the weekend and then hosts Brighton. Arsenal has a trip to Bournemouth and then Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
