Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Tottenham target Morgan Rogers and has revealed whether a January transfer is on the cards for the attacking midfielder.
According to reports, Spurs were prepared to offer ‘crazy money’ for Rogers in the summer, but Villa made it clear that their star man was not for sale.
The Lilywhites instead acquired the services of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, but it has been alleged by some outlets over recent weeks that Tottenham could try again to land Rogers in January.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided the latest on the 23-year-old’s future after Spurs’ failed approach in the summer.

Aston Villa are working to tie down Tottenham target Morgan Rogers to a new deal
Last month, it emerged that Villa had opened talks with Rogers over a new contract in order to ward off interest from Spurs and other Premier League clubs.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the England international is next in line to get a new deal at Villa Park following failed attempts from Tottenham and Chelsea to sign him in the summer.
Romano said on the Here We Go podcast about Rogers: “There will be movements in terms of contract because in the summer transfer window, especially at the beginning of the summer, there was interest from Chelsea, interest from Tottenham, several clubs prepared to pay big money for Morgan Rogers.
“Aston Villa decided to keep the player, described as untouchable for the whole summer transfer window. Now, Aston Villa extended the contract of Matty Cash, Aston Villa extended the contract of McGinn in the recent days, and the next one they want to extend is Morgan Rogers.”
Fabrizio Romano reveals if a January move is likely for Rogers
Romano made it clear that, as things stand, discussions regarding a new deal between the former Middlesbrough man’s camp and Villa are not advanced. However, David Ornstein claims Villa have in fact already agreed a 12-month extension with Rogers that will see him land a significant wage increase.
However, the journalist suggested that Unai Emery’s side are very unlikely to consider offloading Rogers in January, no matter the result of the contract talks.
Romano added: “To reward the player with a better salary, there is a conversation ongoing with the player and his agent. At the moment, it’s not advanced; it’s not yet at that stage, like Matty Cash or McGinn signing their contract in recent days.
“There is still a need for more rounds of talks before saying it’s agreed, but Aston Villa are trying their best to keep their players, and so I don’t think a move in January is likely.”
