Hugo Ekitike apologized to Liverpool teammates for action that 'wasn't smart'

2 hours ago 1

Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike missed the Reds' weekend 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace after being issued a second yellow for his post-goal celebrations against Southampton in the League Cup last week.

Ahead of Liverpool's Tuesday Champions League fixture against Turkish champions Galatasaray, the Frenchman admitted remorse for letting his teammates down.

“I think that wasn’t smart, obviously," Ekitike, named in coach Arne Slot's 21-man squad for Tuesday's match, said at his press conference. "I punished myself alone, I would say. I felt a bit disappointed to watch the boys from home last Saturday."

"As I said, I apologized to everybody already, to all my teammates, that kind of thing won’t happen again. I just move on and I’m looking forward to play and I just focus on football.”
