Robbie Fowler believes ensuring Mohamed Salah goes out on a high could help galvanize the Liverpool squad ahead of the winger’s final matches for the club.

The 33-year-old Egyptian last week confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, calling time on nine trophy-laden years at Anfield in which Salah has set no end of personal records.

He could have just 10 more games remaining before his departure, although that number could increase to 15 depending on the team’s success in cup competitions. The Reds return from international duty with the FA Cup to Manchester City on Saturday before facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

That’s alongside Liverpool’s continued fight to earn a top-five spot in the Premier League. Fowler, who scored 183 goals for the Reds during his glittering career, feels Salah’s team-mates will be determined to ensure he bows out on favorable terms.

“I wasn’t shocked, but I was gutted, of course,” the 50-year-old exclusively told Liverpool.com, on Salah’s bombshell update.

“I think he's a player who has been extraordinary for Liverpool. “I think Mo is certainly up there as one of the top two in the Premier League era of Liverpool.

“So I think when you've got a player like that and he suddenly comes out with this announcement, then I think it's a big shock. We're all sad, but I think we're all realists in terms of there was going to be a point that it was going to happen.

“But I think some ways, in a real positive way for the club, I think it gives everyone a little bit of a chance to help Mo go out on a high because he deserves to, for what he's done, for what he's achieved, for the numbers he's put in for this football club,” Fowler continued.

“It will be sad to see him go out without winning something in his final season. I think it gives everyone that little bit of a lift because we know the league has not been great this year, but there's the FA Cup and the Champions League still to play for, and I don't think you can ever write Liverpool off.

“Now you've got something more to aim for by giving Mo a send-off that he deserves.

“It could help galvanize the team in various games. At times, the players probably need a lift. It gives everyone that little bit of a chance to go out and impress in the last few months of the season.”

Fowler was speaking to Liverpool.com at Anfield, in association with Haier, Liverpool FC's official global partner.

“I’ve been impressed,” Fowler said after reviewing the tech giant’s innovative range of products. “Haier is a new partner for Liverpool; you come here and the set-up and the systems they’ve got in place are very impressive.

“Some of the things I’ve seen upstairs, some of the AI ovens, fridges and mops - they’re revolutionary. It’s made me want some.

“I can mop with a little bit more style now,” he added, with a cheeky grin.
