Former Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer has claimed Jurgen Klopp will make a return to Anfield at some point in the future after having a conversation with the German last weekend.

The Reds' Legends team drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund in front of a full house, with Klopp one of the star turns for the event. And Smicer, who spoke to the 58-year-old, says he got the impression that he would love to come back properly at some point.

"Seeing Jurgen Klopp back at Anfield was unbelievable," Smicer told BetVictor. "I never played under him, so it was fantastic to see him personally as a coach.

"This time, he was only an assistant coach to Kenny Dalglish. It was funny when he said this is the easiest job he’s ever had.

"He's very charismatic and unbelievably popular with the Liverpool fans. It was great to be near him, to speak to him. I had a few chances to discuss things. It was fantastic.

"He's very funny, he has good humor, and always brings a great atmosphere with him. It was fantastic to see him back. Because of him, the stadium was full as well. I think people love him at Anfield and it was a great day.

"If you ask anyone in Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp should come back one day, everyone will say yes, of course. He has something special with the Liverpool fans, the city, and the football club. That's for sure, definitely.

"I think if he wants to return, it will be difficult to turn him down. Actually, I think it's impossible. I think we will see him back one day."

Klopp outlined in the days leading up to the Legends game that while he couldn't definitively rule out a return to coaching at some point in the future, it is unlikely to happen. He currently works for the Red Bull group and is enjoying having more free time.

With Liverpool struggling for consistency this season, though, rumors that he might be the answer were inevitable.

Liverpool returns to action this weekend in the FA Cup with a trip to Manchester City. It then has PSG and Fulham in a massive week for Arne Slot's side which will shape, to a large extent, how the rest of the campaign unfolds.

Liverpool.com says: It is easy to suggest that Klopp could return and everything will be fine again, but things are not that simple. For one thing, he has shown no inkling of wanting to come back into management.

There have been links with other jobs, including Real Madrid, but he seems to be enjoying the new life that he has. Slot was always going to have to deal with comparisons, but they have never been especially helpful.
