‘I was born here’ – Colombo states it is ‘impossible’ to celebrate against Milan

Despite scoring at San Siro, Lorenzo Colombo refused to celebrate against AC Milan last night, and the reasoning is quite obvious.

When Colombo prodded Genoa into the lead, it only deepened the feeling that Milan were against it, once again, against a team in the bottom half. It has been a theme for the season, and the Rossoneri cannot shrug it.

Whilst their performances against the top sides have been brilliant, they have routinely dropped points against the lower sides in the division. So, the benefits of playing well against their fellow title rivals are minimal, perhaps even nonexistent.

Of course, the Diavolo did eventually get there in the end, as Rafael Leao scored late on to avoid complete embarrassment. However, even that nearly meant nothing due to a late penalty.

A game to remember and learn from, rather than one to forget.

Colombo’s admission

Genoa’s only scorer of the evening, Colombo, spoke to DAZN after the game, via MilanNews.

Is the draw too tight for you?

“It’s very important for our path, we’ve been coming off four games that haven’t been very positive in terms of points. Today we performed very well, we showed in front of a stadium like this that we can make a statement.

“We came very close to the three points… But let’s look at the glass half full.”

You didn’t celebrate against Milan this time either. Will you celebrate sooner or later?

“Impossible, I was born here. It was such an important part of my life; they raised me when I was five years old. I won’t celebrate. It’s the best stadium in Italy with these colours, when you enter it gives you a positive energy…”
