Kyle Walker has revealed that he does not regret having joined AC Milan, but has admitted leaving Manchester City in the way he did might not have been the best move.
With Walker struggling for minutes and Milan struggling to win games, it seemed a match made in heaven when the Englishman arrived on a loan with option to buy deal during the most recent winter transfer window.
After a positive initial impact, an elbow injury meant that the full-back lost his starting spot. Thus, reports emerged confirming that the option to buy would not be used when his loan was officially Pep Guardiola considered his City time to be done, so a move to Burnley followed.
‘A club like Milan’
Walker spoke to Sky Sports about the decision that he made during the winter transfer window, and offered an honest reflection on what went through his head.
“Should I have left and gone on loan to Milan? I was City’s captain, and you’re the first to have to answer when things aren’t going well. At that point in the season, should I have left? Looking at it now, probably not,” he said (via TMW).

“I should have been close to my teammates, my friends, and the people I consider my family. But for the first time, probably in my career, I was selfish and thought about myself because I wanted to play football.
“I don’t see it as a bad reason, but I wasn’t happy sitting on the bench and playing here and there, when the opportunity arose. I felt I still had something to prove, that I could still play at a high level. When an offer came from a club like Milan, I didn’t think I could turn it down.
“When I came back in the summer, I had time to think about everything. But I don’t regret it; I always wanted to play abroad and have this experience. I’m happy I did those six months, even if I probably could have done a little better.”
