‘If they pay the €40m’ – Club Brugge coach and captain comment strongly on Jashari

Club Brugge’s captain and head coach have now fuelled the fire surrounding Ardon Jashari with comments after the Super Cup.

The Jashari saga has gone from a frustrating negotiation to a full-blown farce. There seems to be no movement despite the player desperately wanting the move and Milan having put forward an offer worth €38m including bonuses.

The hypocrisy from Club Brugge has been laid bare in recent days too. CEO Bob Madou and director of football Dévy Rigaux spoke to the Belgian media on July 10, then while in Italy they said they would not comment on Jashari.

Captain and coach speak

Now, two more key figures at the club have spoken following the 2-1 Belgian Super Cup final victory over Union Saint-Gilloise. Brugge captain Hans Vanaken also spoke to give his opinion on the deal.

“We have no choice but to do so. As we know, Ardon is in negotiations with Milan and doesn’t feel like playing for us at the moment. However, his replacement has shown he has the qualities to take his place,” he said (via Di Marzio).

“Brugge have shown they can win even without Ardon. If he doesn’t want to play for Brugge anymore, we’ll get over it. Life goes on… Every player understands this, of course. And if going to Milan is the best for his career, we’ll accept it. Both I and the club. But only at the right price!

“I admit that perhaps I would have done the same thing at his age. But the club needs to be satisfied financially. Then the fact that there’s no clause in his contract makes everything more difficult.

“Now it all depends on Milan. If they pay the €40m our club is asking for, Jashari will become a Rossoneri player. Otherwise… ”

Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen commented in a press conference on the Swiss player’s behaviour, and he seemed far more defiant about the situation.

“I wouldn’t react that way. You have a contract and you try to honor it until the last day. The agreement between Ardon and the clubs has been reached. We’ll see how long it lasts.” he said.

“I support the club 100%. This is a great example of how to retain top players. I hope an agreement is reached soon, whatever the decision. Jashari will return to training on Monday (today). The situation is crystal clear; the club has released a precise statement on the matter.

“I have full confidence in the club that they will handle the situation correctly, no matter what happens.”
