Igor Tudor has given me ‘more confidence’: Mathys Tel reveals change since Thomas Frank exit

Mathys Tel, who had a touchy relationship with Thomas Frank, has now spoken about the impact Igor Tudor’s arrival has had at Tottenham.

They say a week can be a long time in football, and Tudor has experienced that first-hand at Tottenham.

The Croatian coach’s days at Spurs appeared to be numbered following the 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week, but things have suddenly changed at N17 after two good performances and results.

The win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, despite coming in a losing cause in the tie, came as a big boost to not just the squad but also the fans, with pundits now calling for Tottenham to stick with Tudor.

Mathys Tel reveals how Igor Tudor’s arrival at Tottenham has impacted him

Mathys Tel may have been the most pleased in the Tottenham squad to see the back of Thomas Frank, given his touchy relationship with the Dane.

Reports indicated in January that Tel was ready to leave Spurs if Frank had stayed at the club after the former Tottenham boss left the 20-year-old out of the Champions League squad and was generally reluctant to start him.

The France Under-21 international picked up an assist on Wednesday and was menacing in the final third, and he has now revealed that Tudor has given him ‘confidence’ that he did not get before under Croat’s predecessor.

Tel said (via The Mirror): “I can feel the manager put confidence that was needed before. So we can see on the pitch, I have got more confidence, I can create situations. So, yeah, I mean, he gave me some things that I didn’t have before.”

Tel calls on Spurs fans to be the 12th man on Sunday

The forward echoed the sentiment of many of his teammates by stressing the importance of having the fans behind the team at Tottenham Hotspur.

He suggested that Spurs can replicate their last two performances if the supporters push the team on from minute one on Sunday.

Tel said ahead of the clash against Nottingham Forest: “We can do everything on the pitch, but we need plus one. And the plus one is the fans. We need them all the time. So we can do everything, but we need people pushing you every time, every minute. So this is what they did. And we won. Liverpool is the same. So I hope we will do the same thing on Sunday.”
