It seemed that Thiago Silva could make a move to AC Milan in January, but the Brazilian has instead signed for Porto.
With Silva becoming available for the January mercato, there was a chance that he could reunite with Massimiliano Allegri. Especially with the Italian seeking some experienced reinforcement at the back, which he would offer.
However, his age was deemed to be a stopping point for the club, and a move was opted against, but it may have been the case for slightly longer than it seemed.
No chance
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano offered some more information about the move to the Portuguese club and whether anyone else really stood a chance. His comments have been relayed by MilanNews.
“Thiago Silva signed with Porto three days ago. He sent the contracts, with option until 2027, countersigned three days ago. It was impossible for other clubs to go and unhin this operation because it was already signed.

“The signatures on the contracts have arrived, the officiality has arrived. The clubs they tried to call were many: yesterday I said Fiorentina, Brentford tried, which offered the player the possibility of living again in London, close to his family, but Thiago chose to return to Porto for several reasons.”
The Rossoneri were still interested on the 19th, but it seems that they may have already been too late at that point. An opportunity missed, perhaps, or maybe a push towards another target.
