Dominik Szoboszlai's impressive season continued as he provided a fine assist in Hungary's win over Armenia, which moved Hungary one step closer to a World Cup playoff spot.
In the first half of the game in Yerevan, the Liverpool midfielder collected the ball on the left flank before delivering an inviting cross, from which Barnabas Varga headed home.
Had Caoimhin Kelleher's Ireland lost to Portugal a few hours later, Hungary's playoff spot would have been assured. But Ireland produced a surprise 2-0 win – which Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off in – to move to within a point of Szoboszlai's men.
Hungary hosts Ireland next week, and Hungary will secure a playoff spot at the very least as long as it does not lose that game.
As for the win over Armenia, Hungarian media outlet Nemzeti Sport handed Szoboszlai a 6 out of 10 in its player ratings.
The outlet said: "He led the attack, from which we had possession in the first ten minutes.
"He was characterized by agility and speed from the start, in the twentieth minute they jumped into his shot, the ball curved dangerously in front of the goal at his corners, he won a key sprint before his goal assist, he twisted brilliantly into the middle.
"Before the break, he went back to help his own defenders, which put him far from the home goal, in the first half, 37 out of 37 passes were successful – they say that's not bad.
"He ran a lot, he also did his part in the defense, he ended the match with a free kick: the ball went over the top not long after."
Another Hungarian news outlet, Blikk, described Szoboszlai as one of the two most in-form players in its report from the game.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been outstanding for club and country in recent months, became the youngest player in Hungarian soccer history to reach 60 caps for his country with his appearance against Armenia.
The Hungarian FA shared some of Szoboszla's statistics from the game, and they made for impressive reading.
Szoboszlai made five key passes and eight progressive passes, while he had a 94 percent pass completion rate across the course of the game.
That includes a 100 percent pass completion rate during the first half.
