Marcus Thuram labelled AC Milan as the best counter-attacking side in Europe after Inter’s defeat in Sunday’s derby.
Inter’s difficult run against Milan continued as they lost a fourth derby in their last six, with the red side of the city winning 1-0 at San Siro on Sunday night. Christian Pulisic got the only goal early in the second half, tucking in a rebound after Yann Sommer had parried an Alexis Saelemaekers shot.
The Rossoneri had Mike Maignan to thank after Strahinja Pavlovic conceded a penalty for a foul on Marcus Thuram. Hakan Calhanoglu took on the responsibility, but he failed to convert from 12 yards as the Frenchman went the right way.
The best in Europe?
Thuram spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to offer his assessments following a bitter night for the Nerazzurri, and his reaction was translated by Football Italia.
Were you unlucky in the first half when Maignan stopped your header?
“I think I should’ve aimed it the other way, as the ball was coming from one side and I should’ve put it back across him.”

You continue to struggle in games against other teams at the top.
“I cannot explain it, but with the coach we will find the solutions, as he is a great coach and gives good advice on how to improve. It’s true that this was a big match, but it is only November and there are many more games to go.”
Are you struggling to defend in transition?
“Because we want a lot of possession, it’s true that when we lose the ball, we become vulnerable on the counter-attack. I’d say Milan and Real Madrid are the most dangerous teams on the counter in Europe.
“I know that we lost, but I think we are on the right track. We have faith in the coach and this project, so one defeat cannot make us change our minds on that. There are always things to improve, but we cannot throw everything away either.”
