‘It’s unacceptable’ – Deschamps blasts France fans who booed Rabiot

Didier Deschamps was unhappy with the fans who decided to boo Adrien Rabiot during France’s win over Iceland on Tuesday night.

Rabiot came on as a substitute at the Parc des Princes last night, as France survived a late scare through a disallowed equaliser to record another three points in their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Rabiot feels the heat

Why did a section of the home fans boo Rabiot? Well, as a former Paris Saint-Germain player, his decision to join Olympique Marseille one year ago on a free transfer was seen as a bit of a betrayal, given the rivalry between the two clubs.

Still, Deschamps was having none of it, even knowing the intense rivalry of ‘Le Classique’.  The French coach commented on the situation in an interview with TF1 at the end of the match, with MilanPress relaying his comments.

“It’s unacceptable. He’s a French national team player, he wears that shirt. When he plays for his club, it doesn’t concern me,” he said.

“Adrien is quite strong, he turned them around in the last play [a decisive tackle]. But it shouldn’t happen. If I have to stick to my criteria about who plays here, on the opposing team… No player should have to go through this. It’s the French national team, he’s French, like all the players.”
