This week, Luka Modric signed for AC Milan, but it has been a deal in the works for a little while now. However, it took off when Igli Tare went to Croatia.

A few weeks ago, there was a photo of Tare that got popular on social media. Him, standing on the bus, headphones in, on his way back to Milan. Many questioned why this was the case, and few knew the real reason.

He was on the way back from effectively sealing a deal for Modric. Perhaps, even at that time, he didn’t know the deal was done. However, Modric spoke about his visit in his first interview.

Tare’s vital trip

“I wanted to stay in Europe to continue playing competitive football. I had other offers, but when Milan called me, it was clear to me. I wanted him from the start,” the midfielder stated, “I was also impressed by the fact that sporting director Tare came to Croatia to present the project and Milan to me.”

“It was very important to me; it showed me how much they wanted to bring me here. Milan are one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Milan can’t be satisfied with mediocrity; we need to set ourselves the highest possible goals: winning titles and competing with the best teams in the world. That’s why I’m here.”

Of course, players meet with different members of staff before a move occurs. However, the importance of that meeting cannot be understated. Perhaps, in 12 months, we will look back on that decision to travel to Croatia with a lot more understanding.
