‘It will be a great show’ – Shevchenko previews derby and pledges support for Milan

Andriy Shevchenko has revealed his belief that the derby between Inter and AC Milan on Sunday night should be a ‘great show’.

There are only two points between the Milanese clubs going into the first Derby della Madonnina of 2025-26, with the Nerrazzurri are top of the table at the moment. The Rossoneri can jump over them with a win, but also run the risk of falling five points behind.

Shevchenko is someone who knows all about the derby: he is the all-time top goalscorer in the fixture’s history with 14 goals. He has scored some big ones too, so as the one that effectively put Milan in the Champions League final back in 2003.

He also netted twice in the famous 6-0 victory over Inter back in May 2001. The Ukrainian gave a brief comment about the huge upcoming game in an interview with Sky, and he didn’t give much of a prediction either way, but made it very clear who he hopes comes out on top.

“It will be a great show. Both teams are coming into this derby on a good run, so we expect a great show. Forza Milan!” he said. A far cry from Sheva’s days, Milan are expected to go into the game without a recognised striker.
