Jack Grealish tuned into some Champions League football on Thursday night, but the Everton and England winger was not watching parent club Manchester City in action.
Jack Grealish might have spent four successful years in Manchester City's star-studded first-team, but he decided against watching his parent club in Champions League action on Thursday night.
Grealish, 30, scored 17 goals and provided 23 assists in 157 appearances for City, winning the Premier League three times, the Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup and Super Cup once during his time at the Etihad Stadium, before making the loan move to Everton last month.
However, instead of tuning in to watch City against Napoli in Europe's top club competition, Grealish was spotted viewing Newcastle United's blockbuster tie at home to Barcelona instead.
In an Instagram story, Grealish posted an image showing him watching Newcastle's clash with Barca - and decided to praise midfield duo Pedri and Frenkie de Jong in a caption, hailing them as a "joy to watch" in-game.
Grealish, who has 8.6 million followers, said: "Pedri and De Jong are a joy to watch."
City ended up running out as comfortable 2-0 winners over 10-man Napoli, with Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku scoring in the second half after Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off during the early stages.
In truth, it was a non-contest after Haaland netted City's opener in the 56th minute. Napoli didn't pose too much threat to Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal, with the Serie A side recording just one shot during the entire game. City, meanwhile, had 23 shots with eight on target and were deserved winners.
"We started better than the last season when we drew against Inter Milan here," Pep Guardiola said post-match. "We played a lot of minutes against 10 men, it was an advantage, but at the same time we were not, I would say, stressed in that situation. But we played well with 11 and it was a big victory against an incredible side.
"The team in the last two games took another feeling.
"Our composure defensively, offensively, our body language is unbelievably good. It's a tough week. We have an incredible challenge on Sunday, but going there with these feelings is much better."
As for Grealish, he has impressed since his switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Indeed, the England international collected the Premier League Player of the Month award for August - after registering four assists in his first three matches, helping his new team to six points from nine.
Speaking after Grealish won his first-ever Player of the Month, Everton's manager David Moyes said: "I'm really pleased for him. You'd have to say it's a big privilege to be given that accolade and I'm pleased for him because everybody knows he's back again.
"It's nothing down to me, it's down to Jack Grealish. He's looked after himself and worked incredibly hard.
"He's come back with the right mindset to produce and he has produced for us.
"He's made a big difference. And it's just the start for Jack."
