Mohamed Salah and Jamie Carragher haven’t exactly seen eye to eye during the Egyptian’s time at Liverpool, which will be coming to an end this summer.

There have been some notable run-ins between the two over the years, not least after Salah launched an extraordinary attack against the club after being dropped by Arne Slot, in which he also called out Carragher as he anticipated the former defender would “go for me again”.

Carragher would indeed go on to deliver a scathing verdict on Salah’s interview, branding it a “disgrace”. Despite that, he didn’t actually call for the winger to leave the club.

In fact, Carragher called upon Salah to ignore any offers from Saudi Arabia, where he has long been touted for a move, in order to stay at Anfield until the end of the season - which he will do after announcing he will leave this summer.

"He deserves a guard of honor, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop, he deserves to be able to bring his family, his wife and his kids on the pitch and actually be celebrated for what he's done as a Liverpool player,” Carragher said after Salah made his return to the squad against Brighton in December, having been dropped completely against Inter Milan a few days earlier.

He added: "Just put your differences with the manager to the side and just think, 'three or four more months at Liverpool. Okay, the worst thing that's going to happen is, okay, I get this big send-off; the best thing that could happen is, I'm walking out with my teammates in Budapest in the Champions League final.'

"And if he'd have sat in Saudi Arabia, watching his Liverpool teammates do that, I think he'd really regret it."

Salah will indeed have the chance to finish his time at Liverpool on a high, with the Reds still in the running for this season’s Champions League, as well as the FA Cup. They face Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the latter after the international break, before taking on Paris Saint-Germain for a place in the semi-finals of the former.

Announcing his decision to leave in a video message, Salah said: "I want to thank everyone who was part of this club during my time here, especially my teammates, past and present.

"And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me, through the best time of my career, is something I will never forget and something I will always take with me.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
