Jamie Carragher clarifies Liverpool formation proposal after surprising omission

1 week ago 38

Jamie Carragher has clarified his position on who he believes needs to start for Liverpool moving forward amid their offensive issues under Arne Slot.

Liverpool has lost four games in a row while struggling going forward, despite spending almost $200 million on Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz - neither being yet to score in the Premier League. Slot has been tinkering with his line-up in recent weeks while looking to find his best team, having failed against Manchester Untited, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

Carragher has suggested that Slot must consider leaving out Dominik Szoboszlai moving forward, in order to unleash their best attacking team.

The Liverpool legend also had Cody Gakpo on the bench, while not including Rio Ngumoha or Federico Chiesa in his best eleven.

Carragher's team had the same back four that started against Manchester United, with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister in the holding midfield roles.

He then had Mohamed Salah from the right with Florian Wirtz occupying the left flank, with Hugo Ekitike playing in the number 10 roles with Alexander Isak.

Dominik Szoboszlai has performed well this season

This, leaving Szoboszlai harshly out of the time despite his strong season so far, explaining his thoughts on social media.

He tweeted: "Szobasli [sic] would be in the team, I was just looking at the front four to be honest, and how Slot could get his big money signings in the team at the same time!!!!"

Slot will be considering all his options at this points with the Reds struggles, as they have looked second best in a number of their games this season - including games which they have won.

The Reds even had issues in their attacking phases in the final months of last season, when they won the Premier League - something Slot acknowledged.

They had hoped that both Isak and Wirtz would bring a different dimension to the attack, but neither have settled in the team and have looked comfortable as of yet.

Slot will likely make changes to the team as the Reds face Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany on Wednesday evening, with Ekitike returning to face his former team.

The game kicks off at 3pm ET, 8pm UK in the Champions League fixture.
