Jamie Carragher has been working for Sky Sports for over a decade now, but one of the most memorable moments of his punditry career will always be his reaction to hearing the news that Brendan Rodgers had been sacked live on air.
The legendary Liverpool defender was at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium at the time, providing analysis on a 3-0 win for Arsenal over Manchester United on October 4, 2015. Earlier in the day, Liverpool had drawn 1-1 away to Everton at Goodison Park, meaning the Reds had won just three of their opening eight league games of the campaign.
The Reds' mediocre start to the campaign followed a 2014-15 season in which the team finished in sixth position, 25 points off title winner Chelsea.
That disappointing season came after a memorable 2013-14 campaign, in which Liverpool took the title race down to the final day of the season.
But the departure of Luis Suarez, coupled with poor recruitment, saw the team drop off dramatically over the following 12 months.
Ed Chamberlin was the main presenter for Sky Sports at the time of Rodgers' sacking, and he interjected as Henry was offering some analysis on Arsenal's win over United.
"Thierry, I'm going to have to stop you, because we've got some big breaking news from the Premier League, breaking right now: Brendan Rodgers has left Liverpool," Chamberlin said.
Henry was sat next to Carragher as the news was read out, and immediately put his hand on Carragher's lap, as the ex-Reds defender glanced around the studio, seemingly not knowing where to look.
Chamberlin continued: "Brendan Rodgers is no longer the Liverpool manager.
"We heard a few moments ago that there was going to be a statement at half-past six. News coming out of Liverpool – Brendan Rodgers... gone."
The reactions of Henry and Carragher instantly became meme material and remain so to this day.
Addressing the viral reactions in the days after the incident, Carragher said in a column for the Daily Mail: "I seem to have become an Internet sensation this week after Thierry Henry touched my leg on Sky when we found out Brendan Rodgers had been sacked.
"I wasn’t really aware of it at the time, I was just in shock at the news. But by the time I got home, everyone was sending round videos of it and having a good laugh.
"But I have a confession to make: the first time Thierry and I were on TV together, I grabbed his leg! So maybe he was just returning the favor..."
