Max Dowman became the youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer during Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday evening, and John Terry has given a glowing review of the teenage sensation
John Terry has told Arsenal that they have their own Lionel Messi in Max Dowman after the teenager's heroics against Everton on Saturday evening.
The attacking-midfielder became the Premier League's youngest-ever goalscorer in the dying stages of the game, finding the back of the net to make it 2-0 - following Viktor Gyokeres' late and dramatic opener - at just 16 years and 73 days old.
And while Chelsea legend Terry saw his fair share of rivalries Arsenal during his respective playing days, he couldn't help but give Dowman his flowers for his achievements. Sharing a video on social media, the 45-year-old said: "Max Dowman, what a player by the way - 16 years of age, almost 17.
"Absolutely incredible. I watched him play against Chelsea about a year ago and I've not seen anyone glide past people like this man does other than Messi.
"It's a big, big comparison, but this man is a proper talent and will play a big part in Arsenal's future, and also England as well. But super, super talent, big win for them as well today."
Terry also reflected on Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on the same evening, Anthony Gordon proving to be a thorn in the side of Liam Rosenior's Blues. He added: "Really disappointing for Chels as well, more importantly, after a tough week of losing away to PSG.
"We face PSG again which is going to be a tough game at home, with all to play for for them, and we need to be pretty much on the front foot as well and take the game to PSG in the week.

"That's gonna be tough for us, cause no doubt they're just gonna sit back, soak it up, like teams do in the Champions League. But disappointing to drop points in the league as well.
"We've got a tough couple of weeks ahead of us. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways as soon as possible."
As a result of their win, coupled with Manchester City's 1-1 draw with West Ham, Arsenal surge nine points clear of the Blues at the top of the Premier League standings with just seven games to go.
However, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will have to continue to inspire nothing less than perfection in the coming weeks, should he hope to land his side's first league title in more than two decades.
Up next is a second-leg round of 16 Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday evening, with both sides hedading into the reverse on a level playing field off the back of a 1-1 reverse at the BayArena earlier this week.
Arsenal will then face City in the Carabao Cup final come Sunday, March 22 as they hope to pick up their first piece of silverware for the season - still also in the FA Cup.
