Jurgen Klopp could be offered Premier League return - but not to Anfield

3 hours ago 2

It's claimed Leeds made a bold move to bring Jurgen Klopp back into management, but the former Liverpool boss has reportedly turned down the approach.

The Elland Road club contacted Klopp regarding a potential replacement for Daniel Farke, whose position is under increasing scrutiny. Despite a strong start to the season, Leeds’ recent slump has seen them slide down the Premier League table, intensifying pressure on Farke from both fans and club officials. Currently, Leeds sit 16th in the league, just one point clear of the relegation zone.

The 58-year-old assumed the role of Red Bull’s head of global soccer, which owns a minority stake at Leeds, earlier this year, with Klopp indicating he has no interest in returning to management.

A report by Indykaila on X claims Klopp was "approached by Leeds" to see if he wanted to become the club's next manager - but Klopp had no interest in taking up the role.

Sources close to Klopp have confirmed that he is currently happy staying away from day-to-day management, though a future return to coaching has not been entirely ruled out.

The possibility of Klopp returning to Anfield was raised by the former Liverpool boss during an interview last month.

"I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it's Liverpool, theoretically it's possible," Klopp said on the Diary of a CEO podcast. "I don't know exactly, I love what I do right now. I don't miss coaching, I do coach now but just different.

"I don't miss standing in the rain, two-and-a-half [to] three hours; I don't miss going to press conferences three times a week, and having 12 interviews a week. I don't miss that; I don't.

"I don't miss being in the dressing room, I coached something like 1,080 games so I was in a dressing room often. I don't want to die in a dressing room because it's nice. It smells.

"There might be something, I'm 58, I could make the decision in a few years... I don't know.

"Do I have to make the decision today that I will not coach again but thank god I don't have to, I can just see what the future brings."

Klopp spent nine years at Anfield, leading Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2019 and the Premier League title the following year.

He also won the FA Cup once and the League Cup twice, among other trophies.

Since leaving, he has not taken another coaching role, instead he is now overseeing clubs including RB Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York Red Bulls. He will also join a DFL expert panel aimed at improving German football.
