Liverpool Legends are set to face off against Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield in the upcoming LFC Foundation charity match.
The highly anticipated game is scheduled for Saturday, 28 March 2026, a date that brings together two clubs linked by a legendary manager and the iconic anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone. The encounter presents an exciting opportunity for Jürgen Klopp to return to his old stomping ground, given his role as an honorary ambassador of the LFC Foundation.
Reflecting on his ongoing involvement with the foundation back in 2024, after his successful tenure as Liverpool manager, Klopp expressed: "The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond. I am really proud to continue my work with them and be named the first ever LFC Foundation honorary ambassador."
Klopp's managerial prowess is well-documented, having led Dortmund to Bundesliga glory in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons before taking the reins at Anfield for nine years. During his time on Merseyside, the 58-year-old clinched Liverpool's sixth Champions League title and ended a 30-year wait for the Premier League trophy.
The last competitive clash between the Reds and Dortmund was nearly a decade ago, a thrilling 2016 Europa League quarter-final second leg. Dejan Lovren's last-minute goal secured a 5-4 aggregate victory for Liverpool, ensuring their progression in the tournament.
Whilst this year's encounter at Anfield may lack the ferocity of a competitive fixture, it promises to be an enjoyable occasion as footballing legends grace the turf once more.
Liverpool's 2026 Legends squad is yet to be confirmed, though previous line-ups have featured the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, and Xabi Alonso.
Matt Parish, LFC Foundation chief executive, said: "Our annual legends game is always a special occasion, and we're delighted to be welcoming BVB to Anfield. The support from fans year after year enables us to reach even more people in the Liverpool City Region and abroad, improving health, championing learning and developing employability skills.
"These games not only celebrate the history of our clubs, and our footballing heroes of days past, but they also have a lasting impact – helping us to continue delivering life-changing work and tackling social inequalities across our communities."
Tickets for the charitable fixture are priced at £29.50 ($38.80) for adults, £19.50 ($25.60) for concessions and £9.50 ($12.50) for juniors, and are available for purchase here. Disabled supporters can visit the club's Accessibility Hub for complete sale information. Premium packages start from £59.50 ($78.30) whilst hospitality options begin at £189 ($248.70).
All proceeds from the 2026 match, presented by AXA, Liverpool's official training partner, will bolster the efforts of the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds. The funds will also support the BVB Foundation, a crucial player in Dortmund and the Ruhr region, backing numerous social initiatives and projects.
The money raised will further fund the LFC Foundation's employability programmes, aiding community members in finding work, earning qualifications, and acquiring new skills through mentoring and training courses. It will also be instrumental in achieving the LFC Foundation's ambitious goal of assisting 500,000 people per season by 2030.
Nine previous legends matches at Anfield have generated over $11 million in essential funds, benefiting individuals across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.
During the 2024-25 season, the LFC Foundation supported more than 145,000 people through health, learning, and employability programmes, marking its highest figure to date.
