The property formerly occupied by ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains on the market, despite a drop in the asking price.

The legendary German is set to return to Anfield this weekend to captain the Reds in a legends match against his former side, Borussia Dortmund. But his previous residence in Formby, Merseyside, remains as he left it. The lavish home is a substantial six-bedroom property positioned in the picturesque Freshfield district.

Originally marketed at £4.25 million ($5.7 million), the price has since been cut to £4 million ($5.3 million), yet potential buyers have not materialized. Positioned on what is known as 'Millionaire's Row,' the property has been associated with Liverpool for over two decades, with the house having a tradition of housing former players and managers.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers previously lived at the property, while club legend Steven Gerrard moved in during 2005. However, current Reds boss Arne Slot opted against residing in the property, which led Liverpool to put the house on the market.

The expansive estate boasts seven bathrooms, a swimming pool complex complete with shower and sauna facilities, and four reception rooms.

It also contains an impressive standalone entertainment building with a spa and gymnasium on the first floor.

The property is now up for sale, with estate agent William Goulden previously stating: "This is an exceptional home in a beautiful part of the country. Many will be aware of the property's recent history."

Rightmove property expert Tim Bannister also told the BBC that the house is among the website's most-viewed listings in 2024.

"From a luxurious former football manager's [Klopp] residence to a historic Grade I listed abbey, the most viewed homes of the year reflect the wide-ranging dreams of home-hunters this year across Britain," he said.

Klopp left the Reds in May 2024 after initially announcing his departure in a surprise statement five months earlier. He clinched several major trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League, following his appointment as manager in October 2015.

His successor, Slot, had an extraordinary first season with Liverpool, securing the club's 20th league title. This season has been much more challenging, however. The Dutchman is under considerable pressure due to Liverpool's inconsistent performances, which have left them battling for a top-four finish.

In January 2025, Klopp took on the role of Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull organisation, but continues to be linked with vacancies at clubs including Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Nonetheless, he hasn't ruled out a return to Liverpool, asserting that he would never manage another English club apart from the Reds.

When questioned last year about the possibility of returning to the Anfield dugout, Klopp responded: "I said I will never coach a different team in England, so that means, if [I did return], then it's Liverpool. So, yeah, theoretically it is possible."

If Liverpool decides to part ways with Slot this summer, Klopp would undoubtedly be among those considered for a return. It's likely that his readjustment to life back on Merseyside wouldn't pose too much of a challenge, especially as his former home is currently unoccupied.
