Jurgen Klopp cautioned Arne Slot about the challenges of managing Mohamed Salah at Liverpool following his outburst last year.

The Egyptian forward will depart Anfield at the end of the current campaign. Since joining the club in 2017, Salah has established himself as a legendary figure. He has netted more than 250 goals, claimed four Premier League Golden Boots, and contributed to the Reds lifting two top-flight titles and the Champions League.

The 33-year-old signed a fresh two-year contract last year, but he confirmed this week that the present season will mark his final chapter as a Liverpool player. This follows his criticism of the club and manager Slot several months ago, suggesting that somebody was attempting to push him out of Anfield.

During this controversy, former boss Klopp's remarks from a 2025 documentary about Salah proved particularly pertinent as Slot worked to resolve the situation.

The public dispute emerged in December, when the Egyptian spoke after a frustrating 3-3 draw against Leeds. He claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" amid disappointing results and stated he had "no relationship" with Slot, having been dropped for three successive games.

Salah's concerns were subsequently smoothed over, but in a BBC One documentary titled 'Mo Salah — Never Give Up' that aired shortly after the saga, Klopp hinted that the 33-year-old poses considerable management challenges.

Klopp said: "We are all massively influenced by our past - how we were raised, where we grew up.

"Mo knew early on [in his life] that he had to do more than others. He always developed. He never stops. That is his mindset. After each summer break, he came back and had a new skill. It was like he had spent the whole time just practising one particular type of pass.

"We pushed each other, just to make sure that we would never stop. And we never did stop. That moment lifting the Premier League bonded us for life. He will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.

"I wouldn't say he is easy to manage, but he is also not difficult to manage. You [only] have problems with Mo Salah if he is not playing or you take him off."

These issues surfaced when Slot decided to bench Salah, but the disputes quickly faded, with the Dutch manager conceding that he had smoothed things over.

Now, Salah is poised to depart the club as an undisputed legend, and his heartfelt goodbye video concluded with this: "I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates, past and present.

"And to the fans: I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
