Jurrien Timber has asserted that no one should question Arsenal's resolve and conviction to clinch the Premier League title.
The Dutchman played a pivotal role in the Gunners' thrilling last-minute victory over Newcastle, which brought them within striking distance of Liverpool. This comes after a challenging start to the season, where Mikel Arteta and his players faced formidable opponents such as Liverpool, Manchester City, and had daunting away games against Newcastle and Manchester United in their first six matches.
However, Timber believes that the team's never-give-up attitude, demonstrated by the comeback at St. James's Park, is indicative of Arsenal's determination to secure the Premier League trophy this season.
With back-to-back home games against Olympiacos in the Champions League and West Ham next Saturday on the horizon, Timber remains confident. He said: "The belief is there. I think we showed that. The character from this team is amazing, and I will never doubt that, and hopefully we can keep going like this.
"The season is so long, when you look at the schedule it looks like a tough beginning - it was a tough beginning - but it does not look like it will be easy now.
"It's going to be tough, the games will still be tough. Last year we dropped points and lost to West Ham at home so next week will not be easy.
"If you want to win the Premier League, you know it's going to be a long season. You have to stay close at the top - and not just close for this week. Next week it's the same thing - and we have to keep going."
Arsenal has cultivated quite a fierce rivalry with Newcastle and appeared destined for a fourth straight defeat at St. James's Park until the dramatic late comeback.
The Gunners persevered, with Mikel Merino finding the equalizer before Gabriel secured a dramatic winner from a corner in the 96th minute.
Timber acknowledges that this victory could prove to be a pivotal moment in Arsenal's entire campaign and believes it will only bolster the squad's confidence.
Timber continued: "Hopefully this will give us a lot of strength. I can tell you that the energy in the dressing room afterwards was amazing. It's also because you know it will be tough, going behind, coming in at half time 1-0 down, it's going to be even tougher.
"But you never know before a game or a season, when you are going to have tough situations. This season is not going to be easy, this game was not easy, and you have to show character and belief and keep going until the end.
"We did that and we need to keep doing it. First, the Champions League and then West Ham. Maybe we will look back at the end of this season and realise that this game was very important for us.
"But just believing that helps a lot. You never know how a game will go and this was tough but we did it in the end. Since I've been at Arsenal, I don't think we've ever won at Newcastle. it's really difficult and yet we never panicked.
"I find it hard to compare seasons, last season was different, different players, different moments, different momentum and so I find it hard to compare and I'm just so happy that we did it."
