Karlsson's Aberdeen loan cut short by Bologna

Bologna have recalled Aberdeen's top scorer Jesper Karlsson from his loan at Pittodrie.

The Sweden international will join Utrecht for the rest of the season with the Dutch club having an option to buy the Sweden international permanently.

Karlsson, 27, arrived in Scotland at the end of the summer transfer window and has scored six times in 26 appearances for the Dons.

His signing was seen as a major coup given his parent club paid AZ Alkmaar £10m for his services in 2023 but he has failed to shine in a struggling Aberdeen side this season.

A key reason behind Karlsson joining the Pittodrie outfit was to work with his former Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin, who was sacked earlier this month.
