Kevin Danso claims Tottenham now have one of the best players in the world

Kevin Danso believes that one Tottenham Hotspur teammate is up there with the best players in the world in his position.

Following the departure of Heung-min Son in the summer, the Lilywhites were left without many superstars left in their squad.

However, a 24-year-old Spurs man is on his way to becoming one of the most valuable players in world football due to the unique skill set he possesses.

We are, of course, referring to Micky van de Ven, who is reportedly on the radar of the biggest clubs in Europe, and the Dutchman has been showing just why that is the case over the last two weeks.

Kevin Danso identifies underrated attribute of Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven

The goal that the Netherlands international scored against Copenhagen last week will live long in the memories of Spurs fans, with the centre-back running the length of the pitch before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Danso admitted that Van de Ven is one of the best going around, pointing out that his willingness to defend and cover spaces makes him a huge asset for the side.

When asked if the former Wolfsburg man is among the best centre-backs in the world, the Austrian told The Standard: “He’s up there. The fastest player I know. His willingness to defend also. There’s so many times when you see Micky covering long balls, covering the space.

“Not many do it like he does. Just that desire to defend, and also being so good and composed on the ball. And his left foot is a real weapon.”

Danso does not mind his new Spurs nickname

Danso has stepped in and performed admirably in the absence of Romero over recent weeks, showcasing his aerial dominance and proficiency in winning duels.

That has earned Danso the nickname ‘magnet head’ from Thomas Frank, and it is not one that the centre-back minds.

When asked about his nickname, the former Lens man responded: “I didn’t know until my friends and teammates told me about it. It was a positive, so I’ll take it.

“When it comes to defending, I’m old school, an old soul. Top defenders are about defending and taking pride in making sure the ball stays as far away from our goal as possible.”
