Kjaer says Milan must focus on Gabbia: “Hard to find a more professional player”

Simon Kjaer praised his former teammate Matteo Gabbia in a recent interview, saying that the academy product is ready to ‘sacrifice himself for AC Milan’. 

After leaving Milan at the end of the 2023-24 season, Kjaer took some time to consider his options. In the end, however, he decided to retire from football and the Rossoneri were thus his last club. The special connection with the club goes beyond that, though.

Indeed, thanks to his efforts for Milan on the pitch, he’s greatly appreciated by the fans. Many have even said that he’s the last defensive leader to have worn the red and black shirt, with inexperience shining through too often since he left.

However, if we listen to Kjaer himself, one player can fill his shoes: Matteo Gabbia. The academy product has truly earned his spot in the starting eleven. He never complained during the times he was on the bench a lot, and he has also delivered when given the chance.

“Yes, I love him. It’s: he’s ready to sacrifice himself for Milan,” Kjaer said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, which was published this morning.
