AC Milan will probably lose Mike Maignan next summer, if not sooner, if contract talks do not improve drastically quickly.
There is a sense of inevitability settling in with Maignan’s future. Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that he will be a Milan player next season, and already there are evaluations for a new goalkeeper. Of course, preparations are needed.
However, it seems like the Rossoneri are already looking for a replacement. For example, it makes no sense to spend more than €30 million on a backup replacement to Maignan, who will want to start every game as captain.
The fact that the Rossoneri are also recruiting leaders heavily suggests that they are already bracing for the departure of their main leader.
Maignan already done?
Of course, things can change. After all, football is known to change in a flash. But the parties are seemingly not on the same page about a renewal, at least not yet.
Milan may have already lost their goalkeeper; now it is just a case of trying to fight the inevitable. With this in mind, Valentin Pauluzzi spoke to MilanNews about the Diavolo’s hopes for Maignan’s situation.
“First of all, I’d like to highlight his [Maignan’s] attitude, which is absolutely top-notch. A Milan executive told us he’s the anti-Lookman, a definition that perfectly describes how Maignan has behaved in recent months.

“It’s a bit unfortunate that AC Milan’s captain’s contract is expiring, and there’s no certainty about his future at the club. Maignan still has a few good years ahead of him; he’s always been committed to the cause. If he were to end up like Donnarumma, leaving for free, it would be a shame.
“I think they’ve already made peace with it. Maignan has been very important to AC Milan, with some ups and downs, but his presence in the dressing room has been crucial.
“Without him, perhaps AC Milan would have sunk even deeper last year.”
